SAP FIORI Launchpad

SAP Fiori Launchpad the latest GUI to be able to use the latest SAP products.

How is it used? What aspects are also relevant to end users?

What is SAP FIORI?

It is a system for designing the graphical user interface (SAP user interface) to enjoy the products developed by SAP. In order to access the latest applications whether they are On-premise or Cloud

In the past it was the SAP GUI that was the primary client for being able to access SAP products, but in the transformation to the cloud, SAP has designed a new user experience for users of the suite. The following image shows the SAP GUI client interface.

The most notable diversities are:

  • The introduction of APP applications instead of transactions.

  • The drastic reduction of available transactions compared to applications (to date around fifteen thousand). On the part of SAP a work to simplify, merge and reduce the number of available transactions, which in the past reached (and reaches in on-premise releases) in ERP systems to more than one hundred thousand available transactions

  • Access to APPs via the mode similar to mobile application stores (Itunes or Google Play), in each case with the ability for administrators to manage which APPs users can "activate" on
The possibility of accessing SAP without having a specific software (e.g., SAP GUI) but enjoying through a browser the solutions. Leveraging in this case several protocols and standards with respect to authorization/authentication management

  • The possibility of leveraging a menu that can be defined on the needs of the professional figure in use. Although the ability to manage menus was already present in previous SAP releases, with the advent of FIORI this aspect has taken on greater weight than in the past (also introducing greater User Experience logics)

In moving from the ERP business suite (SAP ECC) to S/4HANA clearly there is a choice of whether to fully adopt the new interface or to adopt hybrid scenarios.

How do you access to SAP FIORI?

there are basically two ways to access SAP's Fiori Launchpad

  • Directly, via web connection through a browser (e.g. Edge, Firefox etcc). For example, https://company.com:8200/sap/bc/ui2/flp

Tip. By adding this syntax you can decide client and language ?sap-client=300&sap-language=EN i.e., for example https://company.com:8200/sap/bc/ui2/flp?sap-client=300&sap-language=EN

  • Indirectly, by executing an SAP transaction that allows you to start the browser. The transaction is the /UI2/FLP, remember that in order to execute it from SAP GUI you have to precede the /n so /n/UI2/FLP all SAP transactions starting with / must be preceded by the /n in order to be executed. Or bookmark the transaction in SAP GUI.

Direct access via browser is definitely preferred if possible. Also because you can take advantage, if you have Azure Active Directory in the enterprise, of the integration between SAP and Microsoft.

But that depends on whether you are starting from the beginning to use SAP through APPs or if you have done a green field system upgrade. (SAP HANA Security, HANA or S/4HANA migration or installation).

In addition, there may be multiple architectural scenarios. That is, for example, an SAP Fiori Launchpad shared by multiple back-end systems, or a Fiori Launchpad in the cloud (SAP FIORI Cloud) for an on-premise system.
